Modern Technology

Dr. Filler's office utilizes modern technology to provide you with the most up-to-date treatment.  For diagnostics, she uses both digital radiography as well as the diagnodent laser to diagnose dental decay and gum disease.

Digital Radiography
Similar to traditional x-ray systems, it allows Dr. Filler to take an x-ray via a sensor (instead of film). The image from the sensor is uploaded to a computer where Dr. Filler can adjust the contrast and brightness to optimize her diagnosis. This process is not only faster but decreases the amount of radiation exposure.

Lasers
Dr. Filler utilizes two different lasers in her practice.  She has a diagnostic laser known as the Diagnodent. This tool allows Dr. Filler and her technicians to scan your teeth with harmless pulses of light. When decay is present, fluorescent light of a different wave length bounces back to the sensor and gives a digital reading. This new technology allows Dr. Filler to diagnose cavities hidden in the depth of tooth grooves which may have been missed in the past.

The second laser is a soft tissue laser (Diode Laser) which can be used in periodontal treatment, minor oral surgery and root canal therapy. This laser can reduce symptoms and healing times associated with standard surgical therapies.

Intraoral Cameras/Fiber Optic Technology
Dr. Filler utilizes a wand-like device, which has a built-in camera. This allows her to project a magnified picture of a patient’s mouth onto a screen.  The image allows a patient to see fractured teeth, broken restorations, receding gums or mouth lesions.  These pictures can also provide permanent documentation in a patient’s chart or for an insurance claim.

Fiber optic lighting on the dental handpiece can aid in detecting cracked teeth which may be hard to diagnose without the assistance of light and magnification.

Air Abrasion
This technology is utilized to remove stain and some small areas of decay for placement of resin restorations. This procedure uses compressed air to deliver small particles of aluminum oxide onto the tooth surface.  With air abrasion, discomfort is minimized and anesthesia not necessary.

ViziLite
When it comes to oral cancer, early detection is the key to successful outcomes. Unfortunately, the problem with oral cancer is that approximately 70% of the time it is not visible until it has reached an advanced stage. Using the ViziLite Plus technology Dr. Filler is able to see abnormal tissue in your mouth -- before it is plainly obvious. The procedure is very simple: after you rinse with a special solution, Dr. Filler passes a purple light over your oral tissues. Normal healthy tissue will absorb the light and appear dark, abnormal tissue will appear white. Using this information, Dr. Filler can then recommend further treatment if necessary.
